Workshop video

We have created a video to capture the experience of the March 2023 and March 2024 workshops. It shows the key moments of the Full Moon Theatre workshops in Hooke Park, from design to construction and performance. The workshops spanned over periods of 4 days and included lectures about the history of the projects, the physics of moonlight, lighting simulation and parametric design of the reflectors. After the lectures, we built together moonlight reflectors of various sizes and the big aluminium frames that hold the large format Hypatia and Aristarchus reflectors.

Call for Proposals: Third Full Moon Theatre Visiting School 2025

The Full Moon Theatre project invites applications from artists and creatives to collaborate on developing, workshopping, and performing a concept piece for our March 2025 site installation. Project Overview This project will create an enchanting outdoor winter performance space, illuminated by the ethereal light of the full moon. While previous iterations have focused on instrumental performances, we are excited to expand our venue to include a broader range of performance types.

The new Hypatia reflector

The second edition of the Full Moon Theatre Visiting School was held in Hooke Park at the end of March 2024. This time we had the opportunity to build together and test a new, improved, reflector design, that we named Hypatia, after the first female mathematician and astronomer whose life is reasonably well recorded. The new reflector and frame assembly is significantly cheaper, easier to assembly, easier to manouvre and, when disassemled, can fit in the back of a van.

Second Full Moon Theatre Visiting School 2024 in Hooke Park, Dorset, UK

This programme will recreate the Full Moon Theatre ‘Wonderful Laboratory’ initiated by Humbert Camerlo and Peter Rice in the early 1990s in a remote valley at the foothills of the Cévennes, in the south of France. This time, a new version of the Full Moon Theatre will be fabricated in the Hooke Park learning environment, laying down the foundations for the laboratory to continue and more Full Mull Theatres be created.

Full Moon Theatre in Hooke Park, Dorset, UK

The Full Moon Theatre laboratory in Hooke Park has happened over the course of four days on the 4th (Saturday), 5th (Sunday), 6th (Monday) and 7th (Tuesday) of March 2023, with the last course night being a Full Moon night (Worm Moon - moon culmination around midnight). The laboratory has been realised as a Visiting School of the Architectural Association School of Architecture, with the support of the Arup Phase 2 programme.
